*You are not yet in the Emerald Dream. First, you must remove your earthly shell...* the voice in his head instructed. *As you reach the state of sleep, you will slip your body off as you would a coat. Start from your heart and mind, for they are the links that most bind you to the mortal plane. See? This is how it is done...* - Chapter 4Richard A. Knaak
About This Quote
The Emerald Dream is what the elves call their bardic circle. It's a place where all of the spirits are free to communicate with one another. The elves are the only ones allowed into this place, because they can understand the language that others speak in. However, humans don't have this ability.
When someone dies, their spirit leaves the mortal plane and enters the Emerald Dream. When this happens, they are almost immediately sucked into an endless black void. There they are alone in a completely silent world with no one to tell them if they are doing anything wrong or right.
It's an overwhelming experience for most people, but it also marks a transition between life and death.
